The photographs in this section span two years unevenly. 2025 was a difficult year—its center lost when my uncle and photography mentor Gordon Hutchings died in July. Inspiration was hard to find, and the camera stayed mostly home. It returned in December, in Japan and Vietnam; those trips are represented separately in their own portfolios. Moving into 2026, the vision opened wider: parades in Oakland and San Francisco, chess in the afternoon, the Castro at night. In Gordon's honor I transitioned much of my shooting to the Leica M6 and M11—cameras he used and loved. The film images here, and in the Japan and Vietnam portfolios, carry something of his commitment to that medium.
